Frequently Asked Questions

I don’t want to “train” for a race. Can you still help me?

No problem! If you just want to get moving, we’re happy to help you do it! It’s important to set a goal when you start your training, whether that’s working toward a race or simply running a certain distance.. We’ll work with you to select a goal that fits your lifestyle.

I’m transitioning from another sport to running. What do I need to know?

The beauty is that generally speaking, running is far simpler than most other sports. Just pop on some shoes that work for you and head out the door. Athletes who pick up running after their time in another sport are already a leg up because they understand the key to achieving your goals - patience. With each training session, we’re making tiny little deposits into our running bank account. On race day, we make that withdrawal (Credit Tommy Rivs for this idea).

Do I need expensive shoes or watches?

Any pair of shoes will work, for the most part. If you’re comfortable in what you’re working out in now, no problem! As miles begin to build, there should be some thought put into footwear. Volition can give you a bit more information about your foot shape, gait and the types of shoes that may work best for you. However, your local running is the best resource to get properly sized.

Watches and other tracking technology can help you get the most out of your training. At the end of the day, however, our goal is to help you feel your pace and learn to understand your body.

I’m in X city - can you help me?

Yep! Whether you’re in the Washington, DC/Baltimore-area, somewhere else in the US or anywhere around the world, Volition is happy to help you meet your running goals!
